Sticking with the right partner

The Network had worked with the company previously and this had been very successful, as Tracey Ward of Enterprise Europe Network explains: “We had uploaded the company’s profile on to our business co-operation database and this had generated interest. One approach was from an environmental protection and bioenergetics servicing and development company in Hungary, which resulted in a partnership agreement.”
NSA, based in Edinburgh, specialises in coating the surface of hollow microspheres with a range of different materials, such as metals, metallic compounds and pigments.
Internet dating for companies
With the encouragement of the Network, NSA showcased their technology at the May event. A key aspect of the Scottish Technology Showcase was the Network’s well-respected partner brokerage service. Tracey describes how the brokerage works: “Partner brokerage takes the idea of networking one step further. What we facilitate is meetings between interested parties on a one to one basis.
“So take NSA, for example. The company published its profile on to our event website and was then able to view and be viewed by other interested parties. It’s a bit like internet dating for companies.”
The process for NSA was successful, with various meetings held during the course of the event. One such meeting was with Interface, a matchmaking service that connects businesses quickly and easily with the expertise, knowledge and research facilities available in Scotland’s Universities and Research Institutes.
As a result of that meeting, NSA has been awarded an innovation voucher from Interface, which amounts to up to £5,000 to offset the cost of working with a Scottish university. NSA is currently using this to help fund a university research project on the company’s novel, light activated, water treatment material, the results of which will help guide future product development and provide supporting data for product marketing.
