A Chinese agricultural research institution is specialised in cultivation and management of deciduous fruit trees and small berries in China. According to their business development requirement, they want to establish further large-scale international cooperation with European partners. It is also good at pomology breeding: breeding assisted by molecular markers of stunted rootstock of apples; breeding of apples, peaches, large cherries, tea trees, etc. The institution also involves study on cultivation and management of deciduous fruit trees and small berries in North China.

This organization belongs to the municipal integrative agricultural scientific research organization with responsibility for carrying out both basic and applied research, as well as research into new technologies impacting agriculture. It is dedicated to overcoming a broad range of challenges impacting agricultural development and supporting the local rural economy development. It also plays an important role in developing agriculture and cultivating talents. The institute carries out scientific and technological demonstration and services to provide achievements and support for the development of agriculture and rural economy.

As an important regional agricultural innovation center, especially in vegetable breeding, fruit rootstock and biotechnology area, this institute undertook more than 300 projects and achieved 260 scientific and technological awards. 150 good varieties were released and promoted. In recent years, more than 40 research projects were supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and other national funds. The research is focused on such aspects including molecular markers development of vegetable diseases and femaleness in cucumbers, cold tolerance screening in field pea, genetic contribution of wheat backbone parental line, powdery mildew in strawberry, radiation mutation breeding in potatoes,, storable and flavor quality improvement in tomatoes and male sterile breeding in pepper area.
