[EUREKA Network] A Korean sensor manufacturer is looking for software developer specialized in current control for a R&D project on high-precision fluxgate differential current sensor




A Korean company is specialized in developing different types of sensor such as IoT sensor, optical sensor module and pressure sensor for cars. To expand their product portfolio and to prepare for the rising electric vehicle (EV) market globally, they plan to develop high-precision fluxgate differential current sensor for blocking leakage in home EV, or Plugged-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) charger, with software companies in current control under R&D cooperation agreement for EUREKA Network


A Korean company that develops key materials such as wireless charging solution, PCB(Printed Circuit Board) assembly, IoT devices and module for mobile phone, 5G communication, lighting and IoT fields, is now interested in developing high-precision fluxgate differential current sensor for home EV charger.
The new standard about charging of electric road vehicle requires installation of fluxgate differential current sensor to prevent dangerous situation because when EV battery (DC power supply) is connected to AC power supply at home for charging, leakage current could occur.
Typically, A type RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) is installed at home for safety. However, in order to charge EV using residual power supply, B type RCCB which is expensive will be required to ensure safety of the users.

When differential current sensor installed in IC-CPD (In-Cable Control ľand Protection Device) or when wall box is used, the user can detect currents for electrical safety with affordable cost, without the need for installing B type RCCB which is expensive.
A single differential current sensor monitors simultaneously all currents in phases and neutral conductors sensing AC/DC fault currents.

Also, the sensor can activate automatic shut-off in case of dangerous electrical faults or signalize that the switch-off threshold was exceeded to a master device, which will then shut-off the system from the power supply.

As the differential currents to be monitored only occur in the event of electrical faults and are extremely low (mA), maximum measurement precision is critical. In addition, a fast response time is required to maintain safety features and prevent humans from getting injured. Both requirements are excellently covered by the differential current sensor.

Thus, this Korean company is hoping to develop fluxgate differential current sensor and enter the EV charging market as one of the pioneers in this kind of sensor under EUREKA Network Program with deadline of proposal submission until August 31, 2021. Considering the project submission due, this profile will be opened for EOI until June 30th, 2021.
Expected development period for this project is 2~3 years.

B type ELCB(Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) should be installed
to prevent electric shock accident due to leakage current.
However, when fluxgate differential current sensor is used,
inexpensive A type ELCB could be used.
?Leakage current : Current that flows from either AC or DC circuit in equipment to the chassis or the ground and can be either from the input or the output. If the equipment is not properly grounded, the current flow through other parts such as the human body
- Self-monitoring and test functions
- Smaller than existing analogue sensor due to simple structure
- Aside from the current sensor for battery charger, it can be applied to solar generator, and EV(Electric Vehicle/HFCV(Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle) battery as well.
