A French producer based in South West of France specialised in the production of straw cases for the maturing and presentation of cheeses and other food products is searching for suppliers of rye straw under supplier agreement
The French SME is a 3-generation business from father to son which has been perpuating a unique know-how by processing rye straw into straw cases for the maturing and presentation of cheeses, straw envelopes for wrapping and decorating bottles of wine and champagne. Its expertise covers also everything from mats for greenhouses and cold frames to protect seedlings from frost to natural fencing and roofing.
The firm keeps alive unique traditional skills from harvest to delivery that respect the nature of the rye straw. Bound in bundles the stored straw is then combed and brushed at length, beaten and sewn by hand with jute or white yarn with specially designed machine tools.
The searched providers have to supply cleaned, dried rye straw with a size between 80 to 100 cm packed on pallet.
The French company is offering long term relationship to providers under supplier agreement and is willing to develop its international sourcing of raw materials in order to meet market expectations.
- Type of partner sought: High quality of rye straw is demanded.
Rye straw has to be :
- cleaned : straw sorted without ear, grain and grass
- with a size between 80 and 100 cm
- packed on pallets
The annual searched quantity of raw materials of the French company is estimated at 100 tons.
- Specific area of activity of the partner: The searched providers should be able to supply the rye straw corresponding to the mentionned criteria described in the technical specifications.
Quality of the raw materials and respect of delivery times are very important for the French company.
The suppliers will benefit from the good reputation of the French manufacturer well established and renowned in France, above all in the agrofood sector. The firm has also an experience on the international scene by exporting its products in Italy and Spain.
The company has developed an innovative process that ensures the total sanitation of straw mats for use in the food industry. The straw is pasteurized by a high temperature heat treatment that guarantees the destruction of pathogens (listeria in particular).
The treated straws retain all their organoleptic qualities: they are healthy and comply with the regulatory requirements in terms of food safety.
A quality and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) plan was implemented in 2007 so that the staff has been trained in microbiological risks in the agro food industry and in rules to control hygiene of production. The firm's staff carry out regular self-checks and the company conducts microbiological analyses every two or three months.
