A start-up company from Barcelona has developed a new compacting process for manufacturing engineered stone. During the process an engineered stone mixture with 80% of mineral charge is driven into a mold, resulting in a material with specific mechanical properties of a given size and shape. Partners interested in in-licensing and technical cooperation agreements are sought.
Engineered stone has become a profitable market niche within the field of building materials. However, manufacturers rely on a monopolized market of technologies used for the stone compaction.
The Catalan start-up has designed and developed a manufacturing process capable to mix and press engineered stone with 80% of mineral charge and driving it into a mold to obtain engineered stone with the desired dimensions. The compaction step is able to gain materials with a density of 2gr/cm3. In addition, the output stone has shown to have the same characteristics than equivalent standard products already in the market. The technology is a good alternative to the current commercialized machines since the optimization of the process and the reduction of production steps, has resulted in a reduced price of the compaction device.
The technology has been granted with national patents and international patents are about to be applied. The company is looking for partners from material manufactures or construction activities interested in in-licensing the technology or in jointly developing and adapting it to specific market needs.
The designed process eliminates production steps, like calibrating and smoothing, avoiding significantly investment and maintenance. This fact reduces the price of the machine up to nine times the price of the direct competitor.
