10/09/2012 University of Glasgow, Senate Room The space sector impacts upon our everyday lives as it contributes to efforts to address major societal challenges, e.g. in climate change, resource efficiency, transport, citizen's security, natural and man-made disasters, and health care.
The UK space sector contributes £9.1 billion a year to the UK economy and directly employs 28.900 with an average growth rate of almost 7.5%. Expectations are that the sector could be worth £40bn in 2030 but to achieve this we must increase UK share of the global space economy from 6% to 10%.
Following the significant increase in funding dedicated to the Space sector in FP7 the EU is expected to commit 1737m Euros to Space research and development through Horizon 2020. For companies and researchers with the potential to work in the Space sector European Union funding cannot be ignored.
You are invited to attend this seminar and workshop which will give an overview of EU FP7 funding and look forward to Horizon 2020. There will also be facilitated discussions around key Space themes of Earth Observation, Space Weather and Space Debris which we hope will help attendees to identify potential collaborators. Attendees will also hear from SME STAR-Dundee, an engineering company specialising in spacecraft onboard data-handling network technology who will share their experience of participating in collaborative EU projects.
The event will bring together industry, researchers and other stakeholders to explore opportunities for collaboration.
