16/10/2012 London, UK. Future emissions of carbon dioxide are being reduced in order to meet global climate concerns. This pressure and the decreasing availability of fossil fuels will bring different challenges for the aviation industry to those facing other transport modes. For aircraft in the foreseeable future there is no real alternative, such as electricity, to kerosene. Thus aviation is faced with a need to generate this fuel from other sources.
Over the last few years, advances have been made in demonstrating processes that can convert biomass to kerosene. Technical standards have been met and a number of airlines have flown passengers in aircraft partly powered by fuel derived by biomass. The challenge is now to meet sustainability standards and generate sufficient quantities of such fuel at a price that does not take aviation beyond the reach of consumers.

Edinburgh In order to innovate, you have to be willing to change how your business approaches things. Stanford's Professor Bob Sutton dicusses 11 1/2 'weird ways' to make it work.
Most managers try to develop new ideas by relying on tried and tested practices and perspectives. But, to innovate, companies must behave in ways that clash with accepted practice.
In this workshop, Professor Bob Sutton analyses how certain routes to success can limit innovation and creativity. The 11 1/2 'weird ideas' are practical but non-intuitive tools to generate and experiment with ideas while maintaining short-term performance
This workshop will consist of a filmed lecture from Stanford Graduate School of Business, with discussion at appropriate points facilitated by Caroline Morley of Harvard Business Publishing. Caroline is the Senior Implementation Manager for the UK and Europe, responsible for developing the full potential of Harvard Business Learning Products for clients in this region.
Throughout the workshop, there will also be opportunities to discuss your own leadership issues and network with other business leaders.

Edinburgh In 1996, there were more fatalities on Mount Everest than ever before. Harvard Professor Doctor Roberto explains how the lessons learned can be applied to business.
Leadership Lessons from the 1996 Everest Tragedy
On the 10th and 11th of May, 1996, eight people died during Mount Everest summit attempts. In the entire season, fifteen people died trying to reach the summit, making it the deadliest single year in Mount Everest's history.
A tragedy of this nature offers lessons to all leaders. Within this context, Professor Roberto, from Harvard Business School, examines warning signs that could relate back to your business - in particular, the decision making process, group dynamics and communication.
This workshop session will consist of a filmed lecture from Harvard, with discussion led by Caroline Morley. Caroline is the Senior Implementation Manager for the UK and Europe at Harvard Business Publishing, with responsibility for developing the full potential of Harvard Business Learning Products for clients in this region.
Throughout the workshop, there will also be opportunities to discuss your own leadership issues and network with other business leaders.
31/10/2012 Sheraton Grand Hotel, Edinburgh The ‘internet economy’ in the UK was worth £121bn in 2010 and is predicted to grow 11% year on year for the next four years - and significantly out-perform other GDP forecasts. More and more Scottish companies are realising the internet opportunity through e-commerce by integrating a ‘new breed’ of e-commerce solution into their operations in a focused, strategic and highly sophisticated way. This is creating new sales channels and opening up highly profitable national and in particular, international markets. Indeed, estimates suggest >90% of Scottish e-commerce transactions are to customers outwith Scotland with e-commerce accounting for £10bn direct GVA and 200,000 direct jobs in Scotland.
However getting e-commerce right is not just about your website - it is about your strategy and business model, your fulfilment, finances, social media and digital marketing. It is also not just about B2C. B2B e-commerce now accounts for more than three quarters of all e-commerce in the UK. Most relevant sectors include food & drink, tourism, textiles, creative industries, ICT, financial services, energy, construction, electronics and forest & timber.
Delegates will hear from leading players that will both inspire and provide practical guidance; and from Scottish companies that have already transformed their business through e-commerce. They can also participate in speaker workshops on the day. The event is being targeted exclusively at Account Managed and Growth Pipeline clients and will include messages businesses serving both B2C and B2B - three quarters of all e-commerce transactions are now conducted B2B.
