<title><![CDATA[Innovative Medicines Initiative open info day for the Fifth IMI Call for Proposals]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>The &#39;Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) open info day for the Fifth IMI Call for Proposals&#39; will take place on 27 February 2012 in Brussels, Belgium.<br>
	<br>
	The event will include an overview of IMI&#39;s funding and intellectual property rules, tips and testimonies from people involved in ongoing IMI projects. There will also be a presentation of the Fifth IMI Call topic &#39;European lead factory: Joint European compound library and screening centre&#39;. The event programme will also include networking opportunities and information sessions with IMI staff.<br>
	<br>
	Expected attendees will include small and medium-sized enterprises, patient organisations, regulatory authorities, academic teams, industry, hospitals and other stakeholders with an interest in IMI projects.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Workshop on the security of the internet of things]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>There are a variety of definitions for the phrase &#39;internet of things&#39;. They have one common element, though - a world-wide network of interconnected objects. These objects make use of multiple technological building blocks (e.g. wireless communication, sensors, actuators, RFID) and connectivity paradigms (e.g. cloud-based infrastructures, P2P systems)in order to allow people and things to be connected anytime anyplace, with anything and anyone.</p>
<p><br>
	Such a wide variety of components, though, means that no single security solution will be able to fulfill all the security requirements of the internet of things.<br>
	<br>
	This workshop will bring together researchers and industry experts in areas relevant to discuss these and other significant issues. It will also be a forum not only for presenting cutting-edge research, but also for debating the role of security and its practical implications in the development of the internet of things.</p>

<p><strong>Digital content, open data and creativity</strong> - Using cultural material for creativity, Geographic Information Systems, Enhancing the European Digital Library etc.</p>
<p><strong>Trusted eServices and other actions -</strong> Cyber security, mobile cloud, satellite for broadband coverage</p>
<p>Grants worth <strong>over 127M&euro;</strong> will be available from the Commission&rsquo;s ICT Policy Support Programme following its next call in early February for real world deployment pilots. These will demonstrate and assess the utility and long term viability of ICT based services in these areas, which are described in <a href="http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/ict_psp/docs/draft_ict_psp_2012_approved_by_committee.pdf" target="_blank">The Commission Workprogramme</a> .<br>
	The principal speaker at this free event will be Loris di Pietrantonio from DGINFSO, European Commission, who will explain the Workprogramme and the associated processes. Further speakers will describe their experiences of participating in existing projects, together with the proposal submission and evaluation processes in which they have been personally involved.<br>
	There will be ample opportunity for questions and answers, networking and sharing of ideas.<br>
	The event is open to delegates from other countries and follows the Commission Information Day that is scheduled to take place on 3 February in Brussels.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Eurostars, a common sense approach to EU funding.]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><img alt="" height="113" src="../../../userfiles//clip_image001.gif" style="margin: 8px; float: right; border-width: 1px; border-style: solid;" width="157"></span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The Enterprise Europe Network in Scotland is delighted to announce that they will be hosting a half-day seminar focussing on the EU R&amp;D Funding route known as Eurostars.</span></p>
<p align="justify" style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Eurostars is the first European funding and support programme open to all sectors to be specifically dedicated for innovative intensive and research performing SMEs<span style="color: blue;">.</span> Its purpose is to provide funding for market-orientated R&amp;D, specifically with the active participation of R&amp;D performing SMEs. It funds UK participants for up to 50% of eligible costs, with a maximum grant of 350,000 EUR</span></p>
<p align="justify" style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The good news is that it takes a &lsquo;bottom-up&#39; approach to project generation &ndash; basically projects can address <b>any</b> technological area, but should be aimed at the development of a new product, process or service.</span></p>
<p align="justify" style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Eurostars is collaborative in its nature, but unlike other EU Funding routes, only two participants from two different <a href="http://www.eurostars-eureka.eu/where.do"><b><span style="color: #467aa7; text-decoration: none;">Eurostars member countries</span></b></a> need to be in a consortium &ndash; one of which needs to be an R&amp;D performing SME which has been trading for over 12 months.</span></p>
<p align="justify" style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Academics/universities &amp; large companies are welcome to participate, but must fund their own participation or use funds from other sources.</span></p>
<p align="justify" style="background: none repeat scroll 0% 0% white;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Unlike other EU Funds, UK participants in a successful Eurostars project are funded through the Technology Strategy Board and we are also delighted to announce that representatives from the TSB will be there on the day as the stars of our show, providing you with an overview of the programme, key statistics and examples of success. </span></p>

<title><![CDATA[Renewable energy law 2012: market design and system transformation for a renewable energy future]]></title>

In the twentieth century, energy law focused mostly on natural gas regulation, but was expanded to include other areas of energy regulation.<br>

	This area of energy law relates primarily to the transactional legal and policy issues that surround the development, implementation and commercialisation of renewable sources of energy, namely solar, wind, geothermal and tidal. Renewable energy law also encompasses policies that relate to renewable energy and legislative instruments that further encourage its growth.<br>

	The event will be a forum for stakeholders and law professional to exchange views and challenges of the renewable energy sector and get the latest developments regarding the European Commission&#39;s Roadmap for 2050.</p>

	<strong>This conference will bring together the key stakeholders involved in the innovation process of the healthcare sector in view of Europe 2020 and the Innovation Union Plan. </strong></p>

Last year&#39;s event attracted companies from throughout Europe and across the world, including <st1:country-region w:st="on">Belgium</st1:country-region>, <st1:country-region w:st="on">France</st1:country-region>, <st1:country-region w:st="on">Germany</st1:country-region>, <st1:country-region w:st="on">Portugal</st1:country-region>, Spain Greece and <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">USA</st1:place></st1:country-region>. Over 150 meetings were held on the day, with very positive feedback.</span><span style="font-size: 9pt; color: #222222; font-family: Arial"><u1:p></u1:p><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<title><![CDATA[Tenth International ePortfolio and Identity Conference]]></title>

	After Boston in 2011, ePIC 2012 will host the <a href="http://www.epforum.eu/2012/" target="_blank">ePortfolio World Summit</a>, also celebrating the 10th anniversary of the International ePortfolio &amp; Identity Conference.</p>
<p>
	Since 2003 appreciated as a leading forum with the ability to explore current issues whilst leading the path towards possible futures.</p>
<p>
	Bringing together policy-makers, researchers, academics, teachers, trainers, human resource managers and technologists ePIC 2012 will enable in-depth and broad exploration and interaction - and result in real outcomes. Past events have resulted in the creation of national and international networks, contribution to policies, contribution to standardisation bodies, establishment of partnerships with other communities in the field of digital identity and human resource standards, transnational projects and numerous publications.</p>
<p>
	For the third year, the international ePortfolio &amp; Identity conference will have ePortfolios in healthcare as a major theme. 20 abstracts and the 5 best papers of this track will be published in the International Journal of Clinical Skills (IJOCS).</p>
